Summary

This qualification is part of a suite of Education and Training qualifications that incorporate the new qualifications to replace the Level 3 Award in Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS).

 

The qualification is for learners who work or want to work as teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector or who are not in a teaching/training role, or who have just started a teaching /training role.

 

The learning outcomes cover the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and training skills sector and can include the following units:

 

  1. The roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training

  2. Inclusive teaching and learning approaches

  3. Assessment of learners

  4. Facilitating learning and development for individuals

  5. Facilitating learning and development in groups

  6. Understanding principles and practices of assessment

Learners who successfully complete this qualification will have a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. They will be able to sequence learning, plan and deliver sessions, using appropriate resources and teaching methods. They will also be able to identify the characteristics of effective assessment and feedback.

Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

Duration: Up to 150 hours over 3 to 6 months

Summary

This qualification is ideal for professionals wanting to start a career as a qualified assessor, either working for a college, training provider, or working as a freelancer. As a qualified assessor, you will be able to assess learners in colleges and in the workplace. This accredited qualification is a knowledge-based qualification, designed for individuals who want to learn adequate assessing competence in the work environment, and understand the practices and principles of assessment in an easy to grasp manner. The course is suitable for anyone who is responsible for assessing progress in their work environment.

 

The award is designed to develop the students’ ability to:

  • Understand the key role and responsibilities of an assessor

  • Successfully observe and assess candidates in the workplace or training environment

  • Plan, allocate and inspect work in their individual area of responsibility

  • Collect and assess evidence of competence

  • Successfully carry out all assessment activities, make decisions and provide thorough feedback

  • Assess vocational competencies in a variety of qualifications

  • Gain the skills and knowledge to assess vocational and training abilities using a range of assessment methods

  • Understand the key principles and processes of assessment strategies

  • Monitor and maintain records, analyse deficiencies, and lead corrective action efforts
